ID 934/2024 - Engineer / physicist for continuum mechanics (f/m/o)

as research associate investigating the influence of flow on fibers in a suspension

Fuculty 2: School of Engineering - Techology and Life | Salary group 13 | Fulltime | Fixed-term contract for 3 years

In our research project, you will investigate the influence of flow on fibers in a suspension, as occurs in the injection molding of short fiber-reinforced polymers. Together, we aim to develop new models that manage to describe fiber orientation in such systems.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Develop new continuum-theoretical models of fiber orientation in flow
  • Create numerical solutions or the resulting differential equations for orientation tensors in simple geometrics
  • Compare the results of different models with experimental data
  • Publish results in scientific journals and present them at scientific conferences
  • Communicate key project ideas and main results to a non-expert audience

Your profile should include

  • A completed scientific university degree (e.g. Master’s in Physical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics,or Mathematics)
  • At least 3 years of experience in independent scientific research  upon completing your master degree
  • In-depth knowledge of continuum mechanics and tensor calculus
  • Basic knowledge of the Finite Element Method (FEM) and basic programming skills
  • Interest in fundamental research with an application focus
  • Very good English skills
