Professorship appointments
1. We are looking for you
A vacant position for a professorship at HTW Berlin is tendered. You can find current vacancies on our career page (German).
2. You hand in your application
In most cases the tender period is four weeks for professorships at HTW Berlin. This allows you enough time to compile all documents relevant to your application. The documents needed as well as the addressee of your application can be found in the tender.
3. We check your application
The appointment committee checks all applications once the application deadline is reached. Based on merit at least three applicants are selected to present themselves personally.
4. We invite you
The appointment committee sends out an invitation to you. On at least two occasions you have the opportunity to present yourself and to get to know the university. As part of a test lecture open to the whole university you show your didactical skills. On a second occasion the appointment committee holds a non-public interview with you. Generally, travel expenses are not reimbursed.
5. We evaluate your presentation
Once all applicants had the possibility to present themselves, internal and external assessments are collected. Different bodies of the university are also consulted for statements and advice.
6. We decide in your favour
Following intensive internal deliberations, the university administration of HTW Berlin will suggest your appointment to the Senate of Berlin. The Senate will then offer you an appointment as professor.
7. You decide in our favour
If you decide to accept the appointment, contract negotiations start. As part of these negotiations the start of your professorship, equipment necessary to your new role and possible allowances are settled.
8. You start out as a professor at HTW Berlin
As a freshly appointed professor at HTW Berlin you normally start out in your new position at the beginning of the summer semester (1st of April) or at the beginning of the winter semester (1st of October). In order to help you with a perfect start the University Board, members of your faculty, Human Resources and the Teaching Support Centre will provide support and guidance.
