Nomination
In order to study at HTW, you need to be nominated by your home university.
Please be aware that nominations submitted by e-mail or post cannot be accepted. Nominations can only be carried out for study programmes covered by a bilateral agreement between your home university and HTW Berlin.
The registered coordinator of your home university will receive a link to our online nomination platform "MobilityOnline" from us by e-mail (around mid-September for nominations for the subsequent Summer semester or mid-March for nominations for the subsequent winter semester).
The nomination deadlines are as follows:
- By 15th April for the subsequent Winter Semester (starting mid-September)
- By 15th October for the subsequent Summer Semester (starting mid-March)
Application
We will send a link to the application platform "MobilityOnline" as well as information regarding the application process to all accepted students by e-mail end of April for the Winter Semester or end of October for the Summer Semester.
Application deadlines are as follows:
- By 11th May for the subsequent Winter Semester (starting mid-September)
- By 11th November for the subsequent Summer Semester (starting mid-March)
Application Documents (all documents must be submitted in English or German):
Application form: Will be generated within the Mobility Online Application Portal based on your personal details
- Transcript of Records: Overview of your grades, issued by your home university
- Learning Agreement: Please refer to our section "Learning Agreement" here.
- Semester Contribution: All incoming students must pay a semester contribution. Please note that this is not a tuition fee, but covers, e.g., the obligatory contribution for the legal student body. For more information please see here. Please note that you do not have to pay the adminitration fee (50€).
- Two-sided copy of Passport or National Identity Card. All documents need to be valid for the entire duration of your stay abroad.
- For students applying for a Design program: CV, Portfolio (8-10 page presentation of the projects most relevant to the respective field of studies at HTW Berlin), motivational letter, Transcript of Records
- For students completing their final thesis/project at HTW Berlin: If you are planning to complete your Final Thesis/Project during your exchange, please upload a confirmation from your HTW Berlin supervisor including your research topic. Please note that you have to find your HTW supervisor yourself. A supervisor confirmation template can be found here.
- Proof of health insurance: All students (EU and non-EU) must register (the already existing insurance) with a public German health insurance provider. Please note that immatriculation is only possible once your German health insurance provider has submitted your insurance status (M10) to HTW Berlin. Travel insurances are only accepted for the month of the Welcome Weeks, i.e., March or September. You are free to choose any German health insurance provider.We recommend contacting TK or AOK, as they offer their services in English.

We will send all accepted students the Letter of Acceptance by e-mail. Students requiring a visa may receive an invitation letter from HTW Berlin.
Please check your e-mails, as we will send you relevant information about your study period at HTW Berlin, e.g., regarding the obligatory semester contribution payment, student acommodation, semester dates, insurance, course selection etc.
Language Requirements
Language proficiency confirmations must not be older than two years.
Students applying for INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS (BACHELOR) must submit language proficiency proof in accordance with the following scores:
- European Reference Frame (CEFR): C1
- TOEFL iBT: at least 95
- IELTS: at least 7.0
- TOEIC: Listening: at least 490 points; Reading: at least 455 points; Combined: at least 945 points
- Cambridge Certificate: Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
- A signed and stamped statement issued by the sending university's International Office or language department explicitely stating a level of at least C1 can also be accepted alternatively. For this purpose you could use e.g. this template.
- Native English speakers can upload a short statement confirming their native English level. For this purpose you could use e.g. this template.
Students applying for ALL OTHER STUDY PROGRAMS OR HORIZON TRACKS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH (except for International Business) must submit language proficiency proof in accordance with the following scores:
- European Reference Frame (CEFR): B2
- TOEFL iBT: at least 72
- IELTS: at least 5.0
- TOEIC: Listening: at least 400 points; Reading: at least 385 points; Combined: at least 785 points
- Cambridge Certificate: First Certificate in English (FCE)
- A signed and stamped statement issued by the sending university's International Office or language department explicitely stating a level of at least B2 can also be accepted alternatively. For this purpose you could use e.g. this template.
- Native English speakers can upload a short statement confirming their native English level. For this purpose you could use e.g. this template.
Students applying for STUDY PROGRAMS TAUGHT IN GERMAN must submit language proficiency proof in accordance with the following scores:
- European Reference Frame (CEFR): B2
- TestDaF: at least TDN3
- Goethe Zertifikat: at least Goethe-Zertifikat B2
- Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz - Zweite Stufe (DSD II)
- A statement issued by the sending university's International Office or language department explicitly stating a level of at least B2. For this purpose you could use e.g. this template.
- Diploma of German "Abitur" or "Doppel-Abitur " (e.g. "Deutsch-Französisches Abitur")
- Native speakers or students who have previously studied in the required language of instruction may upload a short statement confirming their language level. Feel free to use this template.
