Maternity protection
The Maternity Protection Act (Mutterschutzgesetz, MuSchG) is designed to protect pregnant and nursing mothers and their children
- against risks, excessive workloads and detriment to health caused by work and studying
- against financial losses and the loss of employment or a study place as a result of pregnancy or giving birth
Inform HTW Berlin about your pregnancy and the anticipated date of birth as soon as possible.
- Employees are required to inform the HR Department.
- Students are required to fill out the Notification in accordance with §27 Maternity Protection Act [PDF] form and send it by email to Sicherheitsingenieure@htw-Berlin.de.
Notification is required in order to protect the employee or student and the unborn child and to determine the period of maternity protection and restricted employment. Appropriate measures will then be instigated to prevent any detriment to health caused by performing certain activities or arising from the employment or study environment.
Risk assessment
As a pregnant or nursing mother, you may be exposed to harmful chemical substances, potentially infectious biological agents and harmful physical factors or work conditions that may constitute a risk for you or your child. The Safety Engineers therefore work together with the campus doctor and the responsible departments to conduct a Risk assessment for pregnant/nursing mothers [PDF] and inform the Berlin Regional Office for Occupational Safety, Health Protection and Technical Safety (LAGetSi).
